Bryson C. Thomas – Bernardsville, NJ
Bryson started fly fishing when we was about 10 years old, after signing up for a fly fishing camp run by his elementary school art teacher, who was formerly an Orvis guide. After finishing camp, he admits that his “obsession with fly fishing stated.” As his interest grew, so did his father’s and they would fly fish together every weekend, all around New Jersey, which kept Bryson’s interest level high. Every summer he would attend the same fly fishing camp, along with some others in the area, just to keep working on his skills. When he was 13, he was accepted into the NJ Trout Conservation Camp during the month of July. Three years later, he attended the US Youth Clinic in May of 2013. During that time he says that he “learned about competition fishing and different techniques that would improve my fishing ability. ” Bryson soon made it a personal goal to become a member of Team USA Youth. As he says, “I practiced all the techniques and skills I learned from the clinic and attended many competitions and clinics to learn and improve my techniques.” Bryson, currently attending high school, says that what he likes best about being on Team USA Youth is “having the chance to represent my country by doing the thing I love. I look forward to fishing and learning from some of the best in the world. I am very honored and proud to be a member of the team.” As Bryson looks ahead, he sees himself attending college while still fishing and competing as much as he possible can.
