Forrest Johnston – North Carolina
Forrest Johnston first started fly fishing when he was 11 years old after taking a fly fishing class at the Pisgah Fish Hatchery.
He soon bought a fly rod and started to learn competitive fly fishing from a number of good friends who have been in the competitive sport for some time.
Forrest made Team USA Youth in June, 2017, after working very hard to prepare for the National Championships. He fished nearly every day, putting in long hours and a great deal of hard practice. When asked what he likes most about being on Team USA Youth, he says, “I get to represent my country and improve my skills to be the best angler I can possibly be.”
In the future, Forrest sees himself being a game warden or fly fishing guide in Montana.
