Evan Vanek – Dallas, TX
For youth angler, Evan Vanek, it all started when he was 8 years old. He had been watching fly fishing shows on television and received a fly rod set as a gift. One day his father took him to a tailwater in Broken Bow, OK. After catching his first trout on the fly Evan says, “ I was hooked!” He attended a Team USA Youth clinic where he learned many new skills and techniques. He took this new knowledge and returned home to work on his fly tying and fly fishing with the aid of his new friends from the clinic. Evan says, “I owe a special thanks to my family, especially my father, for the countless hours on the water and support during my journey to excel at fly fishing.”
Evan states that the greatest reward as member of Team USA Youth is “the opportunity to fish with some of the best anglers in the world and to call them my teammates. I look forward to representing the United States in competition and continuing the winning legacy. Lastly, I want to pass down information, support those interested in fly fishing, and mentor future team members.”
When asked about his future plans, Evan says that he sees himself graduating from high school and continuing on to college at Texas A&M University, majoring in business or biology. During this time, he will continue to pursue his passion for fly fishing, work on earning a spot on the adult Fly Fishing Team USA, and be a travel ambassador for fly fishing all around the world.
