Tyler Befus

Tyler Befus – Woodbury, MN.

Tyler started fly fishing when he was just eighteen months old and his dad put him in a baby backpack and they hit the water. As Tyler grew older, his father taught him how to hook, fight, and release fish. On the day before his third birthday, he caught his first “all on my own trout,” as he says.  He describes how he “cast to it, hooked it, fought it, landed and released it. Ever since then fly fishing has been my passion and obsession.”  When asked what he likes best about being on Team USA, Tyler says “I think that just being able to compete and represent the USA in fly fishing is an honor but also being able to meet anglers from all over the world and get to share this common passion for the sport we love. Competing for Team USA has opened up new levels of fishing for me and has made me a better angler. It also helps to motivate and push me to want to be at the top.”  Tyler hopes to continue as a competitive angler.  He will be will be entering his third year in college, and finding his path in life. As he says, “I am certain that it will still include fly fishing just at what level I am not sure.”
